West Mall to Offer More Community-centric Retail Experiences

Features | 30 October 2023

West Mall is undergoing transformation and renewal to offer more community-centric retail experiences. The asset enhancement initiative (AEI), started in the first half of this year, is targeted for completion in 2025.

Aligned with the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s plans to create inclusive and endearing public spaces, the AEI aims to bring fresh and exciting experiences to shoppers and is part of the Group’s strategy to unlock and optimise the value of its portfolio of commercial assets.

Highlights include the addition of a public enclosed space at the mall’s level one plaza, expansion of the existing Bukit Batok Public Library and new F&B offerings at basement one.

Throughout the period of the asset enhancement works, West Mall will remain operational with the works planned in phases to minimise inconvenience to shoppers. Wayfinding signages have also been installed to guide shoppers to the mall during this period.

“We are committed to creating value for both our shoppers and tenants. With these AEI works, shoppers and their families can expect an even more exciting shopping experience with fun and engaging activities at the mall throughout the year. Our collaboration with the National Library Board also presents new opportunities for learning and discovery at the mall that both shoppers and residents in the West can look forward to.”

UPGRADING OF PUBLIC LIBRARY

Bukit Batok Public Library will undergo a revamp to upgrade its offerings and expand its current footprint. To make way for the new experience, the library will be closed temporarily after its last day of operations on 30 December 2023 and is slated to reopen by end 2025. For the convenience of library goers, a Wallpaper Library will be displayed on the library’s hoarding panels, providing easy access to NLB’s eResources by scanning a QR code. A book dispenser and reservation lockers will be placed nearby next year, allowing patrons to conveniently borrow and collect their reserved items.

LEVERAGING PUBLIC SPACES TO STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

As part of the AEI works, the mall’s open plaza will be converted into a sheltered plaza offering a weatherproof meeting point for communities to gather. In addition to facilitating social interaction, the privately owned public space will play host to community engagement activities, seasonal or festival-themed events, adding vibrancy to the area. F&B kiosks will also be added to complement the public space, allowing shoppers to grab a quick bite while participating in these activities.

CATERING TO DIVERSE CONSUMER PREFERENCES

To address the evolving needs and lifestyle preferences of the community, the transformation entails expanding the basement one offerings of F&B and lifestyle shops, providing a wider array of choices for shoppers. These enhancements are set to significantly elevate the shopping experience for individuals and families residing in the Bukit Batok, Hillview and the upcoming Tengah precincts, reinforcing West Mall as a vibrant ‘eat, shop and play’ destination for families and shoppers.
